What is a Lifestyle Newborn Session?

I’ve had many people ask me what it means when I say that my style of newborn photography is a Lifestyle one. So I thought I’d write a blog post about it.

Lifestyle photography is a kind of photography which mainly aims to capture people in real-life situations in an artistic manner and in the art of the everyday. The primary goal is to tell stories about that time in a person’s life.

My newborn sessions normally take place in the home of my client where I can capture the family’s interaction with the new addition to their family naturally.

My goal is to capture those early precious moments where you are getting to know your new little bundle of joy in the comfort of your own home. We can include special places in your home such as the baby’s nursery, which many parents (or at least the moms) spend a lot of time and effort in creating.

During my lifestyle newborn sessions I also love how I get to photograph the interactions of you with your baby. It’s such a beautiful thing to see the love that is shared. Plus, if you have children, you know that the arrival of a baby can be a crazy, hectic, sleepless time and rarely do you take the time to photograph this precious and short-lived period. It’s so important to capture memories of this exact moment.

Another bonus of the lifestyle newborn approach is that the photos can be taken at any age. With studio-posed portraits, it’s essential that the photos are taken when the baby is as new as possible since they will sleep better and allow you to pose them easier. With lifestyle portraits I am photographing you in your everyday life so age doesn’t matter (although I recommend having the photos done within the first 3 months of baby’s birth). This can give you moms time to recover from the delivery experience and allow you to feel as comfortable as possible before the session.

A common reaction that I get from parents is that they are embarrassed that their house is a mess! Don’t worry, I have a 3 year old, I know about messy houses. We can easily move some clutter aside to get that great shot.

And if it’s warm enough outside, there’s nothing stopping us from taking some photos outside.

And even though this is a lifestyle newborn session, I always get some images of the baby on their own, looking so adorably cute.Blog_newborn_7
